knitting is so instructive

For reasons that are not clear to me, 2-1 = 2 when I was working on the clapotis while on the plane yesterday. I was just starting a row where I'd drop a stitch (on purpose), and I realized that I had 2 stitches before the stitch-to-be-dropped (aka stbd). And I can clearly remember having the appropriate number of stitches 2 rows prios, and I am certain that I purled 2 stitches together the row immediately prior.

The lesson - when you are on a plane, because of the lower atmospheric pressure, the amount of oxygen available to your brain is decreased. Which can lead to hallucinations or muddled thinking. Neither of which mix well with knitting.

Catpotis

It's all about them.

Dropped my 8th stitch last night. It took me a while to realize what was meant by increasing the length by increasing the number of repeats on the straight. Now I have to decide what the final size should be. I may do an extra 2 repeats. Even though the 6th dropped stitch marked the halfway point, I don't really have a good sense of what the final length will be. I'm rationalizing that since most things are too short for me (pants, necklaces, shoes, gloves), that the extra length will make it just right.

minored in math, yet I cannot count

Realized yesterday that if x = the 4 skeins I bought, m =a less than half done clapotis, and b =the 3rd skein of yarn that is almost used up, that
y = me rummaging through the shelf at the yarn store to find the remaining 3 skeins that she has in stock.

I think I misread the yarn requirements on one of the entries on the yahoo clapotis KAL database. Or I lost my ability to do simple multiplication. Or both.

I haven't checked the lot numbers to see that they are the same. My current delusions are: 1)With this type of pattern and a varigated yarn, the color differences wouldn't be noticable and 2)A small yarn shop would only have skeins from a single dye lot.

Various stages of current projects

This is the clapotis scarf from knitty winter 2004. I am knitting it with Crystal Yarns "party" in fall herbs

clapotis thus far

I am almost through my 3rd repeat on the straight section, and it is getting a bit monotonous.

entrelac scarf
Entrelac scarf - a variation on the Danica Scarf from Knitty Winter 2005. Knitted in Patons Shetland Chunky. It is almost done, but I have run out of Charcoal. And there is none left in town; I patiently await delivery of the next shipment.
This hat was made with an orphan ball of Patons yarn that I picked up in a sale bin - it has been discontinued

An action shot!

All done - apparently the camera adds inches to one's nose (I hope)

I knit a cat!

not actual size
OK - not really, but a lot of her hair has been incorporated into my projects.
